Wired Down Under

About Me

My name is Maree, I was a nurse, now a health & wellbeing coordinator, Qualifyied in Diploma in Community welfare. I have had dogs most of my life. I was the one who would bring home the strays from school telling myself they needed a good home and most times I was allowed to keep them, so dogs are and will always be  part of my life.

I have always loved gundogs and started with spanials, did a bit of showing but didn't particularly learn much and got disheartened by the whole affair. Many years later I aquired a mini poodle (Rosie) started obedience, then bought a standard poodle from Giday kennels, Melb ( Linda Johnson ) a gundog OS but not here "Tia" (AKA)  Tracking CH Giday Rip Curl Girl CDX ET, who was a challenge to train being a brilliant worker but very independant and who at the young age of 6 died recently after a sudden illness. I had started training her for gundog retrieving because my interest in the sport was renewed, and thought it would help get me ready for the next dog a gundog of course. After much research into what breed I would like to have, and having loved the smooth Vizsla for a long time, I was made aware of the wire version and their reputation for being calm and patient made me enquire further. I liked the fact that they still looked basically like the smooth vizsla, but had the added advantage of a, so I'm told of a lovely clam nature.

Almost had a wirey baby but as things do, it didn't happen. It may happen soon though and I'm like the expectant mum waiting myself. I'm also pleased to be part of a group promoting this new breed and hope to do lots of work in Showing, obedience, tracking, gundog work and Endurance. I know it sounds alot but what fun we will have doing it. I want to show this breed has not only beauty but brains as well.

I'm a member of the Wangaratta Kennel & Obedience Club Inc, Vic as obedience instructor, run tracking clinics for people wanting to learn to track. I also belong to  the Vic Tracking club & Albury & Border Kennel Club. I enjoy helping people who want to train their dogs for competition and love watching gundogs at work doing what they do best...Thanks for inviting me to join this new group..hope to see everyone some time
